MARYLAND

CURRENT MEMBERS IN MARYLAND NUMBER 20

Others suffered physically, mentally - some had illness show up years later. All Career Military were promised a lifetime of care after service to our country. Today this issue is still a sore spot with veterans. Not only for themselves, but for their families and the individuals still proudly serving our country both here and abroad. Don't let history repeat itself. Join us today to make the changes we need to take care of the individuals who served and will serve our country.

MISSION STATEMENT

If you agree with us please fill out the form and return.  Since our elected representatives have decided to ignore our needs by not allowing S. 170 out of committee, while asking more of us to lay down our lives in the current hostilities, we feel it is imperative that we take the following action:

"Veterans' Voting Bloc"

COST TO JOIN – ZERO

Because our elected representatives from both parties have consistently ignored any significant legislation to address the veterans' and retired military personnel's needs:

I, the undersigned agree to vote only for the candidates for public office who have supported veterans' issues, or challengers who avow to vote for veterans' issues, regardless of their party affiliation. It is my intention to set aside any partisan politics, at least temporarily, to accomplish the goal of establishing this voting bloc because I understand that it is the only way veterans will ever have any political power. Politicians from both parties have intentionally ignored the plight of the veteran historically, because they know veterans do not speak with one voice. This voting bloc is designed to end that forever.

For the purposes of the upcoming elections we have chosen the issue of Concurrent Receipt, Bill # S. 170 (other issues that affect all veterans and retirees will be chosen as the bloc develops- see list below ). Only congressmen/women who vote for this bill will get my vote if the bill passes, and gets funded in its entirety. If the bill does not get passed in its entirety or fully funded, I will vote only for those representatives who sponsored or co-sponsored it. If the bill does not get funded, I will not vote for ANY CANDIDATE who served on that committee, even if they were co-sponsors - someone has to be held accountable. The purpose of that strategy is to deter representatives from playing games such as voting for a bill they know will fail or not be funded, simply in order to announce they voted for a popular bill, thereby retaining voter approval. It is unfortunate to be forced to get their attention this way, but these people use various tactics such as including a number of issues in one package, so they can say they were for most of the bill, but the other party added on some unacceptable points – thereby avoiding accountability again. We mean to tell them they better find a way to redress this egregious wrong or pay the price.

We will not accept excuses such as those mentioned here any longer. It is time to put up, or get out. It is not our intention to be a single - issue voter in the future - we will only use this tactic for some of the gross inequities such as Concurrent Receipt.

For those not familiar with "Concurrent Receipt" - that is the rule that requires disabled retired military personnel to offset their retirement pay by the amount of their VA disability check. RETIRED, DISABLED MILITARY IS THE ONLY GROUP OF AMERICAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES which is subjected to that treatment. ALL other federal employees are not subjected to that, including Congressmen/women, IRS employees etc. In our opinion this is almost as unconscionable as taking away the earned, no-cost medical care that was promised to retirees in return for their military service. IT MUST STOP NOW. These are just a couple of the injustices perpetrated on our nations gallant warriors of past and present.

We realize there are priorities to consider for our funds in America. Most would agree that national defense should be first priority because without that we not even have a country. Probably most would agree that taking care of the elderly and disabled should be the next priority. Also, most Americans will agree that living up to promises made to those who are and have fought/and/or died for everyone else's freedom, along with treating them fairly in all matters, should be the third priority. It is our contention that these three needs should be met first. No funds should be paid out in foreign aid, congressional pay raises, welfare, food stamps, free health care to ILLEGAL immigrants and other social programs until these first priorities are met. That is not being done, and it must stop NOW.

It is our intention to vote as a bloc, at the same time all across the country. We will vote in uniform (for media attraction), or veteran organizational attire if not on active duty. (Date and Time to be announced at a later date, which will be known as "The Great Veteran Vote Out")

I agree to give up my privacy right (in respect to who I voted for and why) in order to publicize my intentions via the news media. The only way the politicians will pay any attention is if we let them know for whom we are voting, and why. Lobbying, emails, letters, phone calls and any other form of complaint to your Congressmen/women get very little response, if any. That is because there is no accountability or verifiability with INDIVIDUAL complaints - no one can prove how many of us are dissenting. There must be a highly visible, UNIFIED complaint - this is it!

To give veterans a REAL voice and force the politicians to attend to veterans' needs I understand that I must give up party affiliation for this election. This documented, publicized vote will help eliminate the problem of military personnel who did not get their absentee votes counted last election (around 200,000 military votes worldwide were not counted). I filed a class action suit in Pensacola trying to stop that last year to no avail. Let us not let that happen again. If anyone should be allowed to vote - it should be those who are fighting for the rest of America's right to be free and vote - don't you think?

Some of the other issues we will be addressing in the future are: Medical disabilities due to Agent Orange and the Gulf War Syndrome, the USFSPA, the Feres Doctrine and many more inequities that have been perpetrated on the brave men and women who have sacrificed for the rest.
